History

This impressive old stone building built at the end of the 16th century.  It is one of the oldest buildings in La Redorte.

In the 19th century is was bought by the bishop of Narbonne and became the “Public school for boys of La Redorte”

It was housing families of refugees from northern France after World War II. In the late part of the 20th century the church sold it and it was again on private hands. It was restored to the original structure.  The upstairs classrooms where the youngest class resided became our guest rooms, and the downstairs classroom was restored as our magnificent dining area. The original holy water font (Benitier) made from Languedoc  stone is kept in the family room (Pink), which was the priests’ room at the time.

The grand garden in front of the building was obviously the school yard, the back garden was a secondary court yard.

This is how the old boys school became “La Marelle”.
